Barrence Whitefield

XPN welcomes Barrence Whitfield and The Savages to Milkboy tonight alongside the George Urgo Band. Whitfield’s live performance draws comparisons to Little Richard, due in no small part to his incredibly powerful vocal delivery and dance-inducing big band sound. The Boston soul singer released Dig Thy Savage Soul on Bloodshot Records this past August. Tickets and information for tonight’s show can be found here. Listen to “Bloody Mary” off of 1985′s Dig Yourself below.

Girls Against Boys bring their reunion tour to Johnny Brenda’s tonight.  The DC / NYC post hardcore band was formed in the 80s by Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty, but is now headed by co-founder Eli Janney.  Their fall tour is in support of a new EP called The Ghost Life, GvsB’s first release since 2002′s You Can’t Fight What You Can’t See.  Tickets and information for the 21+ show with Coliseum and David Yow can be found here.  Listen to “60 is Greater Than 15″ from the new EP below.

Leftover Salmon and Assembly of Dust play Union Transfer tonight.  Leftover Salmon are a rootsy, string-based band out of Colorado that has been making a name for “slam-grass” music over the last 25 years.  They’re joined by Assembly of Dust, a folk-rock jam band that released its latest LP Sun Shot earlier this year.  Tickets and information for the show can be found here.  Watch Leftover Salmon perform “Down in the Hollow” live below.

XPN welcomes Francis Dunnery to the Sellersville Theater tonight.  The XPN listener favorite once fronted English 80s band It Bites and has worked with Robert Plant, Lauryn Hill and Santana.  Most recently the musician released his Made in Space LP, referencing his affinity for outer space (Dunnery is also a trained astrologer) and broadening his pop songwriting to include some R&B influences.  Tickets and information for tonight’s show with The Sensational Francis Dunnery Electric Band can be found here.  Watch Dunnery perform “Kiss Like Judas” below.
