Philly-based newcomers Cheerleader will bring their psych-pop to the Kung Fu Necktie stage tonight and judging by the demos up on their Soundcloud page, they’ve got something fresh to add to the local music scene. In a recent interview with Philadelphia Weekly, frontman Joe Haller says of the band’s mantra: “We try to be a little more light-hearted. We don’t want to take ourselves too seriously. We’re trying to create a friendly, happy atmosphere and get more people interested.” Check out “New Daze” below and get $5 tickets at the door. Show time is 8:00 p.m.

California rapper Schoolboy Q will take over the Trocadero stage (most likely donning a bucket hat, his signature accessory of choice) to celebrate his newly released debut Oxymoron. The album, which is expected to top the Billboard 200 Albums Chart this week, is a cinematic narrative chronicling Q’s struggles much his “Collard Greens” collaborator Kendrick Lamar. Get tickets here and watch his recent performance of his catchy single “Man of The Year” on The Arsenio Hall Show below.

Elsewhere, singer-songwriter Robyn Hitchcock will serenade fans at Sellersville Theater. After rising to fame as a member of late ’70s psych-pop band The Soft Boys, Hitchcock began a solo career in the early ’80s. Last year, he released a folk-pop album titled Love From London. Listen to “Harry’s Song” below and get tickets here.
