Tonight’s Concert Picks: Ash at Johnny Brenda’s, Smokey Robinson at the Strand Theater, Martha Wainwright at World Cafe Live, John Hiatt at Sellersville Theater

Northern Irish rockers Ash will be performing at Johnny Brenda’s tonight. The alt-rock/pop four-piece from Downpatrick has been performing since 1992 with some change in their lineup over the years (including English singer Charlotte Hatherley, Bloc Party‘s Russell Lissack, and LaFaro‘s Alan Lynn). In 2011 most of the band’s performances included “Best of” sets as well as most of 2001′s Free All Angels. Go here for details and tickets to this evening’s 21+ show; doors open at 8. Motown record legend Smokey Robinson is playing tonight at the Strand Theater in York tonight. The crooner has released over 20 albums since the beginning of his career in 1973, and is credited with the distinction of being one of R&B’s most instrumental figures from his involvement with Motown Records and hit-making talent. Canadian/American folk-rock singer Martha Wainwright is performing tonight at World Cafe Live. Folk culture runs through Wainwright’s blood from her upbringing as the daughter of folk singers Loudon Wainwright and Kate McGarrigle and sister of Rufus Wainwright. Her third studio album, Come Home To Mama, dropped in October to praise from critics. Tickets for tonight’s all-ages show are available here; doors open at 7. John Hiatt is playing tonight at Sellersville Theater. The acclaimed multi-instrumentalist/singer-songwriter continues his tour celebrating the September release of his 21st studio album, Mystic Pinball. Hiatt, whose career includes collaborations with musical legends like Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, and B.B. King, has been making music since his 1974 debut Hangin’ Around The Observatory.
